In his latest interview with IS Sports, JYJ’s Jaejoong clarified the various scandals and rumors surrounding him and other Japanese top stars.

On Ayumi Hamasaki, he revealed, “It is true that I’m friends with her. We first met at Avex’s annual ‘A-Nation‘ concert and kept in contact since then. However, we are not of the relationship that people seem to think.”

A scandal first broke out between the two last October due to Hamasaki attending JYJ’s showcase despite her busy schedule. “At the time, Ayumi attended the showcase with another Japanese singer friend. It should be regarded as the upkeep of friendship between musicians. She also announced marriage plans in January.”

On actress/model Yamada Yu, he revealed, “She’s one of my closest friends, alongside Yamashita Tomohisa. We met at an after-party in LA and became friends. Like everyone already knows, she’s in a relationship with Oguri Shun.”

Jaejoong concluded, “I don’t have a girlfriend so I spend most of my time at home. It was an opportunity for me to learn Japanese and meet with other Japanese celebrities and develop friendships.”

In their commerical for Nike Women’s Race Seoul 7K Marathon, Yunho and Changmin discuss how all men have a desire to exercise with their girlfriends. Then Yunho longingly looked at the camera and asked, “Is there no one who wants to run with me?” to which Changmin added, “How about me?”

Both Yoochun and Junsu of JYJ managed to avoid the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Yoochun had left Japan the day before the disaster struck, but he had been supposed to film in the country for the new MBC drama “Goodbye Miss Ripley.”

Junsu, on the other hand, “was supposed to be in Sendai when the earthquake hit.” He revealed that he could have become a victim of the tsunami if he hadn’t been persuaded by his staff not to visit Sendai. Because he enjoyed the seascape and hot springs of Sendai, the singer had originally planned to film a bit of his project there.

Luckily for Junsu, the staff convinced him that filming in Sendai wouldn’t fit the project’s concept, so he stayed in Tokyo to finish. Sendai was an area heavily devastated by the March 11th earthquake. Even though he was in Tokyo, he still experienced the disaster, though on a much smaller degree. “Everything was shaking violently,” he recalled, “and it’s scary to think of what could have happened if I had been stubborn about going to Sendai.”

With great difficulty, he was able to return to Korea the next day and attend the scheduled JYJ fanmeet. The three members of JYJ also donated 600 million won to the international aid organization World Vision to help aid victims of the disaster.

[Star Interview] JYJ Kim Jaejoong, “Loneliness—Overcoming it with Music.”

JYJ’s member Kim Jaejoong. The expression on his face, whom I met prior to the (actual) interview, was bright, and his voice was cheerful. He said that he “drank a few glasses of beer” on the interview that took place immediately prior to this one and suggested that this interview also double as a second round.

The place in which Jaejoong finished his interview with the other paper was a café in Shinmunro, Seoul. We moved to a pub in Samsungdong, where he used to live once. Inside of the car with which we moved together, he started to talk about his recent interests in order to ease the atmosphere (T/N: presumably, the reporter and Jaejoong are strangers). Actually, the talk was on the misunderstandings and the truths that mire Japan’s earthquakes and radioactivity. He struck me as a man of considerable insight. I asked him: “do you read a lot of newspapers and books?” The response that was passed to me was: “I learn more things from people than books.”

When we arrived to the pub, he poured out a few cell phones onto the aluminum table. There were six cell phones, and among them were some models that he used to use in Japan. Apparently, he does not differentiate between the cell phones as “for work” or “for family.” He also deleted many of his contacts, which at one time numbered over 1,000.

“As we push through on (only) our own strength, there was a person or two who drifted away. And, as I refrain from contacting them because I felt sad (T/N: literally, “disappointed”) (at their drifting away), it seems that the people around me are reducing (in number)… But even so, to me—I have the Members and the Fans.”

Inside Kim Jaejoong’s words were complexity. He wrote on his twitter profile “JYJ from TVXQ,” and on the day of the interview he posted a tweet reading “JYJ.” Could it be that the past and the present, the dream and the reality are muddled together?

“That TVXQ is my beginning is obvious and is unchanging. I didn’t put any other special meaning into it (T/N: changing his profile to “JYJ from TVXQ”). On posting the (tweet) that read “JYJ,” it was because upon waking up in the morning I all of a sudden felt that the whole of my life was “JYJ.” The period (at the end)? Um, that really had no particular meaning… Haha.”

In the interviews that he had with a few media sources, Kim Jaejoong brought out even private stories, such as “I’ve dated 4 women,” without concealing. He confessed his complicated and intricate family story and other things, but he said that the story that he really wanted to tell was on “music.”

“I learned so much by taking charge of all of the directing of the stage for the Thailand concert. As I took on the title of “executive director,” there were many worries. If it goes well, then it’s thanks to the staff, but if it does not go well, then it’s my fault—I had such worries too. Since I’d already made up my mind, I wanted to be responsible for everything. I went (to the venue) earlier, prior to the concert, and checked detail by detail from the placement of the stage to the routes of movement. It’s fortunate that it ended will, but in truth, it’s largely thanks to Junsu and Yoochun. Haha.”

The past 2nd and 3rd in the concert hall of Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, JYJ met with 22,000 or so fans through their World Tour 2011. Kim Jaejoong, with the staff, made everything—from the lights, movement paths, costumes, and the like. To check the time that it takes to move under the stage in order to prepare for the next stage, he took at stop watch and ran (the distance) himself.

“Because I am a singer who sing songs, I’ve often thought “ah, what would it be like if there was this such part.” If I come to direct often in the future, wouldn’t I be able to create a more perfect stage?”

This World Tour will cross major cities of Asia and North America and will decorate its splendid finale on June 11 and 12th in Korea. Kim Jaejoong is a beginner director but he was confident that he will improve little by little and will become complete in the future. The surprise revealing of the self-made songs of JYJ members through the concert was also a novel present for the fans.

“As the fans also probably felt, I think that nowadays our musical color changed slightly. In the past, we didn’t have songs like “Fallen Leaves.” It is true that we wondered whether we could do a song that did not have a beat. In order to keep pursing change, I am thinking about studying harmonics. As I create songs, it seems, also, that I need the theoretical background as well.”

As time passed, as the glasses of soju emptied, inside his words was his inner heart rather than jokes. Jaejoong talked about his inner heart that he felt while looking at the incidents relating to his former agency, the few colleagues and juniors who are changing little by little, and the wall from the world that is becoming erected without his knowledge as he receives hurt. Most of all, he repeated, over and over, that he wished to do activities that are varied, like the other members.

That he had a swelled heart that hoped that when the conflict with the former agency died down, he would be able to meet with the fans often through TV– is his revelation of his true feelings. The image of Jaejoong who sometimes shows tears during fan meetings floated to my mind. At my question that asked whether he was lonely, he instead responded with laughter.

“Where and how shall I meet with fans? Actually, the majority of recent worries is precisely that. I believe that everything will be okay. I plan to sing for all of my life, I can’t become worn out. Haha.”

Idol group JYJ held the first performance of their World Tour in Bangkok, Thailand, from 2 to 3 April.

The 2-day concert attracted more than 22 000 fans, and JYJ put in all their effort to perform ‘Song Without a Name Part 1’, which was recorded in JYJ Music Essay, as well as 4 other new songs, bringing happiness to the listening fans. Kim Jaejoong took up the role of Concert Director, attending personally to everything from stage design, sound to performance costumes, presenting an even more elaborate stage to the fans. With Thailand as the first stop, JYJ will continue their World Tour next in Taiwan on the 23rd, then on to Beijing on 7th of May, before moving onto 4 cities in North America and then wrapping up in Korea on the 11th and 12th of June in Busan, finishing the 8-months-long promotional activities of their worldwide album, “The Beginning”.

What the members learnt from Director Kim
“At first we called him Assistant Director Kim, but later on we wanted to call him Director Kim, so this became our nickname for him”. Park Yoochun and Kim Junsu’s praises made Kim Jaejoong feel embarrassed, which he expressed, “Because this is the first time I’m challenging (to be a concert director), I feel excited but also nervous, and through this chance I have learnt a lot. If the stage is not directed well singers performing will encounter huge barriers, and though the scale is smaller and not as large as our concerts when we were newcomers, we knew there were many details and areas that still require a lot of preparation.” When reporters asked if everyone is satisfied with this concert, Jaejoong stole a glance at Yoochun and Junsu before answering, “Everyone should be quite satisfied”.

Director Kim: Only cares about directing, and not singing and dancing?
Yoochun, as though he suddenly thought of something, was laughing to himself at a corner. Only when everyone was looking at him with curious eyes, did he open his mouth to say, “Jaejoong hyung was very hardworking as a director, but as a singer…”, laughing out loud before he finished his sentence. Upon hearing Yoochun, Jaejoong smiled and expressed, “There are many things to do as a director, such as going to the raw materials market for the costumes, as well as being responsible for stage design, so there isn’t any more energy left”, honestly revealing, “If everything was not standardised, there would be unhappiness, and I will not be able to sing properly, that is why I did not have more energy to care about performing. On the first day of the concert, I did not change my costume during the time I was supposed to, as I only cared about the set list and the stage”.

A satisfying performance, thanks to Jaejoong Hyung
In order to present a perfect stage, Director Kim flew to Thailand alone 2 weeks before the concert to prepare, and his passion and hard work were finally translated into his members’ satisfaction.

Yoochun: “I was really satisfied after it ended, because everyone was tight for time but still had to prepare for such a large-scale concert, therefore there will definitely be lacking areas, and since this is the first concert, there was unease and a lack of confidence. But all thanks to Jaejoong hyung, the level of completion was rather high.”

Junsu: “Due to my musical and Yoochun’s drama, we could only depend on Jaejoong hyung to organize (this concert), he must have been under a lot of stress and felt a strong sense of urgency. I am very thankful to him, because he prepared such a stage with the pre-knowledge of what a singer needs, and that is why we could stand on stage with the most comfortable and stable state of mind. It was really good.”

Jaejoong: “Compared to very elaborate concerts, I went with the feeling of ‘Hoping everyone would appreciate our own stage and songs’ to design the stage, and put in a lot of effort to completely showcase a concert that JYJ could present, that JYJ was best in, and I hope everyone would like it.”

A stage with only JYJ’s songs
Yoochun: “We were very happy to have songs enough for a concert, which means we could use our own songs to hold a concert. We wanted to leave a deep impression on everyone through our JYJ World Tour, so we worked very hard to not let everyone see our lacking areas, and to present our most perfect condition. Although we experienced quite a big barrier, but through the concert, I understood the standard I was at, which line I was standing on, and to me this has a huge meaning. At the same time, we were also given the chance to grow.”

Male idol group JYJ started their world tour at their first stop - Bangkok - with two concerts held on April 2nd and 3rd.

In the press conference held before the concert, Junsu revealed his thoughts on working under the name of 'JYJ.' The three members of JYJ left TVXQ due to the lawsuit with their former agency SM Entertainment, and then subsequently announced their comeback and released their first worldwide album "The Beginning" on October 3rd of last year. With the help of famous rappers Kanye West and Rodney Jerkins, "The Beginning" caused a preorder craze before the album even hit the stores - creating a record of 520,000 preorders and being sold out of both online and actual record stores. Furthermore, JYJ was listed as fifth on the Billboard's 2010 Top 10 Favourite Albums - creating a stir in the music scene.

Regarding this, Junsu said, "Being listed in the Billboard's Reader Polls, even before the album was officially released, was a very memorable achievement. We were proud of that." He then continued calmly, "Mm, the only negative thing about entering the polls was that aside from us, no one else knew about it. There were also fans that only knew that our songs were being composed by famous singers. There were also people that thought we were just doing nothing during our break." This revealed the pain that Junsu felt during that period of time.

"With this album, however, we are confident with its quality. The only thing lacking is that we can't perform it on Korean stage. I feel that this is a major obstacle for us and we are becoming stronger because of it." Junsu reveals. Lastly, Junsu doesn't forget to convey his gratitude towards the other two members during the hard times, "To be able to complete this world tour was also due to the members' support and encouragement. After meeting them, I feel that I am so lucky, because I can rely on them and they can rely on me. It is also due to this that no matter what problems we face, they are meaningful. Thank you very much."

JYJ’s Kim Jaejoong wrote ‘JYJ from TVXQ’ on his own Twitter profile, bringing fans an unusual happiness.

Jaejoong recently rewrote his twitter profile to ‘JYJ from TVXQ’. The sentence itself has a deep meaning to JYJ’s fans.

This twitter profile became a huge topic of discussion for the fans, with many moving responses such as, “Even though this is something apparent, it is still unknowingly heart-aching.” and “Thank you for this TVXQ-rooted twitter profile”.

On another note, JYJ held the first performance for ‘JYJ 2011 World Tour Concert’ in Thailand Bangkok’s Impact Arena for 2 consecutive days, 2 & 3 April. This concert, that excited 22,000 fans, was entirely directed by Jaejoong, showing a more mature side of him apart from his idol singer image. Jaejoong was especially attentive to details like lightings, stage, performance attires etc., raising the standard of the performance.

After the performance, Jaejoong wrote on his Twitter, “Even if my throat bleeds from singing, and my body breaks from dancing, I will never give up the stage. Under the circumstances where you cannot enjoy yourself wholeheartedly, just scream and shout till your throat hurts. If you want to see how far our voices and screams can travel, let’s sing together.”

With the announcement of their US tour in May, and having a great start in Thailand, JYJ is looking to achieve similar success on their US leg of the tour.

Despite being unable to receive profit from their last US tour due to visa issues, the group will be returning, this time being promoted by POWERHOUSE. With over 20,000 fans attending the Thailand series of concerts, the US audience will likely be high in number as well.

As opposed to the somewhat short showcases of last year, the concerts on this tour are 120-minute long full-blown concerts with elaborate effects and stages designed and directed by member Kim Jaejoong, covering all of JYJ's work. A set list circulating around boasts 19 tracks, which includes songs from their English-language album "The Beginning," as well as their recent Korean-language release "Their Rooms 'Our Story'." The list also features solo songs from each member, capping off with the explosive "In Heaven" as one of the four new tracks composed exclusively for the tour.

While the North American stops have yet to be revealed, the tour has already generated a considerable amount of interest from US fans. As mentioned before, Koreaboo is partnered with POWERHOUSE, so they will be sure to bring you more updates as they become available!
