Recently, TVXQ’s debut album ‘Hug‘ jumped its way up to second place on the Hanteo real-time album sales chart.

As it’s been seven years since their debut album was released, what could be the explanation for this sudden increase in sales?

As all of you know, the group made its comeback with just two members, Yunho and Changmin, after three of its members - Junsu, Jaejoong and Yoochun - left the agency to form their own unit, ‘JYJ‘. Before the beginning of this mess, the group promoted in Japan for a long period of time, giving fans no chance to see them on Korean variety shows. They were heartbroken to see that the group split into two before returning to Korea, as they would not be shown together as five.

However, with the current promotions of the TVXQ duo, fans have been able to see them on numerous variety shows, such as SBS’s ‘Running Man’, KBS’s ‘Happy Together’, and SBS’s ‘Strong Heart’. This gave them incredible exposure to the public once again, resulting in many new fans who have little knowledge of the group’s history.

One reason for the sudden rise in sales for the group’s debut album is partly due to these new fans, who are curious about the group’s past and how they started their career.

Currently, both TVXQ’s ‘Keep Your Head Down Special Edition’ and ‘Hug’ is ranked high on the Hanteo charts.

The Seoul District Courts has dismissed all formal objections against JYJ's injunction as well as the exclusive contract suspension injunction filed by SM Entertainment against JYJ's Kim Jaejoong, Kim Junsu and Park Yoochun.

On the 17th, the Courts made it known that they have dismissed all claims filed by SM Entertainment, which is the agency's formal objection against JYJ's injunction as well as its exclusive contract suspension injunction.

This means that the Courts have emphasized their decision that the contract signed between the members of JYJ and SM is invalid and that the members' independent activities are guaranteed. They have also publicized that SM Entertainment cannot interfere with JYJ's activities in the entertainment activities on the claim that their contract with the agency is still valid.

The Courts laid down the verdict that SM Entertainment's formal objection is invalid on the premise that ▲the exclusive contract in question can be categorized as a submissive contract as it does not give the celebrity the freedom of choice and instead forces him to follow the orders of the entertainment agency, ▲the members of JYJ could do nothing but follow SM's orders as they were placed in an inadequate position compared to SM in terms of bargaining power, ▲the exclusive contract's extreme long-term subordinate nature cannot be justified by pretexts including the decrease of investment risks and ensuring a stable entrance into foreign markets, ▲other than the long-term nature of this exclusive contract, clauses including that which gives SM Entertainment direct superintendency over JYJ's every move as well as that which calls for excessive compensation for a breach of contract strengthen the submissive nature of this contract and place the members of JYJ in an unilaterally disadvantageous position.

Regarding the injunction filed by SM to suspend the exclusive contract signed between the members of JYJ and C-JeS Entertainment, the Courts dismissed the injunction on the grounds that, ▲as long as the verdict made on October, 2009, which includes the decision that SM must not interfere with JYJ's independent activities in the entertainment industry, is valid, SM's request to suspend the validity of the business commission contract signed between the members of JYJ and C-JeS Entertainment is not allowed as it goes completely against the previously stated verdict, ▲and stressed that SM cannot exert the direct superintendency, given to them by their exclusive contract, over JYJ's activities in the entertainment industry as of now.

On February 17th, the Seoul Central District Court dismissed both lawsuits filed by SM Entertainment against JYJ.

To recap, SM Entertainment filed an objection on October 27th, 2009, claiming that the Seoul Central District Court’s order to prevent them from interfering with JYJ’s individual activities was illegal.

The court rejected SM’s injunction objection application by stating, “The exclusive contract between SM and JYJ forces the celebrity to become subordinate to the agency without any discretion. JYJ has no option but to follow SM’s actions due to the subordinate rank they are forced under in the power of SM. A long-term subordinate contract cannot be justified by the risks the agency took in investments, as well as international advancements.”

They continued, “Aside from the long-term contract terms, SM’s ability to supervise and direct every move made by JYJ, as well as the clause claiming that JYJ must repay for losses only emphasizes the subordinate positions of JYJ in the contract, so the injunction is invalid.”

Regarding the second injunction filed by SM Entertainment, asking the court to suspend JYJ’s contract with CJES Entertainment, the court replied by saying that the injunction is invalid since SM Entertainment was ordered on October 27th, 2009 that they were to not interfere with JYJ’s individual activities, and their injunction was in breach of that order.

Baek Chang Ju, CEO of CJES Entertainment, commented, “We consider it a victory of truth and hope that their activities are no longer hindered by forced accusations of double contracts. We will be working hard to show only the best side of JYJ to the public. I would like to thank the JYJ members and the staff for consistently battling a tiring fight against Goliath.”

In conclusion, the exclusive contract between SM and JYJ is invalid, and JYJ’s individual activities are legal.

[UPDATE #1]

Representatives of SM Entertainment stated in the aftermath of the ruling, “The legal battle between SM and JYJ is not yet over. This court decision is merely regarding a preliminary injunction, this does not mean that the exclusive contract between SM and JYJ is invalid. The original lawsuit is still ongoing, and the date of pleading will be sometime in mid-March. Through the original lawsuit, the truth will be investigated, and we will be working to make sure that their contracts are still valid."

[UPDATE #2]

Meanwhile, Xiah Junsu tweeted to thank the fans, in response to the ruling, “All of you fans did not let go of the dangerous and risky string and helped us in withstanding everything.. Even when the string bled through our skin and wounded us, it was because all of you that cleaned and treated us that we were able to hold on until the end.. Thank you, genuinely.”

Sina Entertainment News (S): Let’s have the all new DBSG greet everyone first. [T/N: It really does say 'all new' in Chinese.]

HoMin: Hello, we are DBSG.

S: How do you feel about coming back with your new album Wae?

Yunho (Y): We feel great.

Changmin (C): It’s been two years and three months, right?

Y: Everyone’s become even more supportive of us despite having waited for so long, so we’re very happy.

S: Please introduce the musical style and leading track of your new album Wae.

C: This is the album we’re meeting everyone with after a long time, titled Wae. For not just the album but also our performance as a whole, we’ve worked hard to find a convergence line that allows us to keep our respective individualities yet blend well with each other.

Y: In addition, the album has songs of various genres. The most important leading track ‘Wae’ has a powerful beat and a fast melody, which are highly addictive. We hope everyone will show his support and interest.

S: Let’s talk about the choreography of ‘Wae’.

Y: The choreography this time for ‘Wae’ is more powerful than past ones. The energetic dance moves are the highlight, especially this part with ‘Keep your head down’. It involves bowing the head, just like what Changmin’s doing.

S: Are there highlights from the filming of the MV that you find memorable?

C: The one I found most memorable was actually not mine. We each had solo scenes, and my character concept was the manipulator of light, right?

Y: I was a manipulator of fire.

C: Honestly, he almost got burnt to death by the flames.

Y: Yeah, everyone might think those flames were CG effects, but they weren’t—they were real.

C: Really almost got burnt to death.

Y: It was very hot, but I completed the filming while holding my breath because I’d heard that you were likely to asphyxiate after constant inhalation of smoke.

C: I suddenly find it very scary.

Y: You do?

C: Not too much, I guess.

Y: Anyway, I almost got burnt to death.

C: That’s because it was our highlight.

S: How do the both of you usually manage and maintain your figures?

C: If it’s to manage your figure, first of all, from a health perspective, would be to eat well, sleep well, and laugh often.

Y: We also go to the gym for some exercise whenever we have the time to.

C: Many people have said we have better figures and look even manlier now. We’re really thankful to everyone.

Y: That’s right.

S: The both of you have been in television drama filmings recently. Were there any memorable moments during filming?

Y: Why don’t you talk about that famous production Paradise Ranch?

C: Speaking of memorable moments, should I talk about incidents or accidents? You could say one of them was a disaster. It happened while it was snowing on Jeju Island. It was snowing very heavily while we were driving past Hallasan, such that if ten cars were on the road, then nine would meet an accident. Although we had some trouble, the image of a snow-blanketed Hallasan was just too beautiful, so the cars next to it got into accidents.

Y: So the scenery was especially beautiful. Plus since it’s Jeju Island, I’m particularly envious.

C: A place where rock and wind are especially plentiful.

Y: There really are lots of rocks and wind. When I was on the set of Heading to the Ground, it was especially hot. I had to play football, and there were many action scenes. Since I was being filmed as I played, I often got hurt. The lighting got smashed while the football scenes were being filmed too, because I was too ambitious and kicked the ball too high. Recently, I’ve been taking part in the filming of Poseidon. Filming began only after the weather turned cold, and there’re scenes which require dives into the winter sea. Because it’s been too cold, there’ve been several instances where filming was cancelled.

S: Last year-end was DBSG’s seventh debut anniversary. Do you have any special feelings regarding this occasion?

C: We and our fans have been through a lot, but everyone has been as supportive as ever, for which we’ve always been thankful.

Y: Yeah, the number seven. The seventh anniversary is full of meanings.

C: What are these meanings?

Y: If I had to list them one by one, it’d be one of the reasons we’re still singing. After our seventh anniversary, we’ll work even harder and bring even more exciting performances. More than just the seventh anniversary, we hope to become a beautiful memory for the members and fans from now on.

S: Do the all new DBSG have plans to hold activities in China in the near future?

C: Our last visit to China to meet everyone seems like it happened so long ago.

Y: That’s right, it seems like SMTOWN was the last time.

C: Excluding visits with the rest of the company, it looks like our last DBSG-only visit took place a really long time ago.

Y: Yes, it’s really been a while.

C: Even though it was fun to visit with the rest of the company, we still hope to go on our own. We really want to meet everyone, though. We don’t have anything fixed as of now. As long as there’s a great opportunity to do so, we hope to meet everyone frequently.

Y: That’s right.

S: Everyone’s hoping you’ll come back to China soon. Please say a few words to the Chinese fans.

Y: Having come back with a new album only after two years and three months, we heard that everyone rushed to lend their support from afar, giving us a lot of strength. It’s made us feel that we have to keep working harder. We’ll bring you more exciting music and performances from now on, and we hope you can continue to keep your love and concern for us.

HoMin: This has been DBSG. Thank you.

Park Yoohwan recently received a car as a gift from his brother, Yoochun of JYJ. He publicly thanked him, demonstrating the brotherly bond and support for each other that the two share.

The closeness between the two was further revealed when Yoohwan confessed that Yoochun's "only flaw is that he is excessively tidy." He paused to think of more bad qualities but concluded, "There really seems to be nothing. Maybe he's just perfect?"

Yoohwan gave an example of Yoochun's sense of tidiness: "At home, my brother will notice when a hair is dropped. Sometimes when I use a cup and I leave it on the table, he will tell me to clean it up quickly." He noted his brother's need for orderliness isn't an obsession; it's just "a little tiring."

He then explained that this created a difference between the two brothers. "My brother is more feminine, and I’m more masculine. My brother is good at tidying and putting things in order, and he likes to decorate the house. While he is more delicate, I just wear what people recommend, and I’m not interested in fashion. I’m a bit more cool and chic."

Yoohwan told another anecdote to distinguish the difference in manliness between him and his brother. "When I was in elementary school, my brother and I shared a room together. He'd always try to sleep interlocking arms with me, and it wasn't just once or twice that I was a bit annoyed by that."

Park Yoohwan is set to debut as an actor in MBC's "Shiny Shiny Shining". Are you excited to see more of Yoochun's brother in the future?

SBS’s variety program, “Strong Heart“, floated to 1st place in viewer ratings for its time slot, thanks to the guest appearance of TVXQ.

According to results from AGB Nielson Media Research, this week’s episode of “Strong Heart” garnered a viewer rating of 15.2%. Compared to last week’s rating (14.6%), there’s been an increase of 0.6%.

So how did the other shows on this time slot fare?

KBS 2TV’s “Win Win had a viewers’ rating of 8.4%, which meant that “Strong Heart” carried an almost doubled lead over their competitors.

The February 15th episode guested TVXQ’s Yunho and Changmin, who attracted viewers’ curiosity through their colorful stories and powerful dance skills.

On February 14th, Junsu and Yoochun of JYJ visited the Seoul Military Manpower Administration to receive health checks. Health checks are conducted to determine if Korean males are healthy enough to serve in the military. Member Jaejoong received a health check one week earlier.

JYJ's management company C-JeS confirmed this to be true and stated, "The members will absolutely enlist, but since JYJ is doing promotions right now, they want to adjust the time. Since some members may not be eligible [physical requirements not met], they may have to get checked again."

On February 15th, TVXQ’s Yunho moved viewers on SBS’s “Strong Heart“ by revealing the story behind his characteristic ‘thumbs-up pose’.

He stated, “When I first came up from Gwangju, my father and grandfather disapproved of my trainee life severely. At one point, I lost all support from my home and was forced to sleep homeless at a subway station in Seoul.”

Yunho continued, “Right before I debuted, my grandfather passed away. I heard that his condition was bad while we were recording for our debut album, so I went back down to my hometown. My grandfather, who was always known to be quiet, gave me a thumbs up. That was the last image I have of him.”

“For three days, I cried night and day. And then I became determined – I will rise to the top one day and keep my promise to my grandfather. Only then would I let go all of the tears I held up inside of me. If you look closely, I have a lot of pictures of me with the thumbs up pose, and it’s because I never want to forget the promise I made with my grandfather.”

He concluded, “I hope to receive a lot of good awards at the year’s end, and cry to my heart’s content.”

Later on the show, Yunho also showed off his ‘four leaf clover trick’ with his tongue, which amused the studio greatly since other idols showed off talents like dancing or voice imitations.

Changmin hilariously added, “It’s kind of weird staring at another person’s tongue like this.”

Girl’s Day’s Minah had confessed on an earlier show that she’s been a huge fan of TVXQ’s Yunho; in fact, her love has spanned over eight years! To her delight, the young star was able to not only stand on the same stage with him, but she also performed with Yunho as well.

On the latest episode of SBS’s “Strong Heart“, Minah performed a ‘kkab‘ version of HyunA’s “Change” choreography. With overly-exaggerated movements, Minah succeeded in cracking up her audience, as they called out, “Daebak, daebak!“”

MC Kang Ho Dong added that it was the most shocking female idol dance he had ever seen in the program’s existence.

On today’s episode of SBS’ Strong Heart, TVXQ’s Yunho, was a guest along with fellow member Changmin. On the show, Yunho revealed the origin of his stage name.

He stated, “My singer / stage name is U-Know Yunho, and it stands for ‘you know me and I know you’. To tell you the truth, I thought of the name from an online game I used to play. My username for that game was ‘U-Know Yunho’. In the game, I reached the high level of ’supreme’, which was right before the highest level of ‘God’. Right before I became God, I debuted in TVXQ (Rising Gods Of The East).”

It’s quite hilarious that we all expect their names to come from some place more meaningful… well, I guess that game was pretty important to Yunho.

On this week’s episode of SBS’s “Strong Heart”, former H.O.T member Moon Hee Jun expressed his amazement over the growth of TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho and Max Changmin.

“Eight years ago, when Yunho and Changmin came up to me as trainees and greeted me, I just said “Okay” and didn’t give it a second thought. Back then, the two got kicked out of the practice room and went into the basement because of me,” said Moon Hee Jun.

He continued, “But now, they’re sitting in the rows in front of me. If I knew they were going to be this successful, I should’ve just gone down to the basement instead,” causing the set to roar with laughter.

Turning to the witty and hilarious Changmin, Moon Hee Jun praised, “My cute junior Changmin has finally burst with comedy after eight years. I’m envious of Changmin today.”

Moon Hee Jun even commented on a previous confession by Girl’s Day’s Min Ah about her being a long time fangirl of Yunho’s. “To my dear Junists (Moon Hee jun’s fanclub), please become singers and come onto “Strong Heart”. And I beg you, please talk about me.”

On February 15th, TVXQ’s Yunho guested on SBS’s “Strong Heart” and shared his personal story about being terrorized by an anti-fan.

After TVXQ released their third album in October of 2006, an anti-fan had given Yunho a drink with an adhesive mixed in. After drinking it, he began to vomit and was immediately rushed to the ER; the idol was hospitalized for a few days of treatment. Although the ant-fan turned herself in, the shock of the incident did not wear off for some time.

Yunho revealed, “A long time ago, I was terrorized by a drink. Someone gave me a drink with a poisonous substance in it, and I thought, ‘why did it have to be me? I don’t even know that person, why did I have to be terrorized?’”

He continued, “At that age, the incident was something bigger than what I could handle. Even though I can laugh and talk about it now, I was truly afraid of people then.”

On the February 15th SBS show ‘Strong Heart’ afternoon broadcast, U-Know Yunho conveyed his inner feeling.

In the recent recording, U-Know Yunho said, “During TVXQ’s activities from all these times, there had been many cheerful and difficult moments, but not once I’m able to cry out my heart.” thus attracted others’ attention.

U-Know Yunho continued, “As a human, of course I also want to cry whenever I want to. But I just don’t think the time was right for me to show my tears, therefore I try to be patient, and endured my feelings for a long time.” Furthermore the singer said, “Now I’m still working hard to show the good side of me, yet if I can wish, I want to cry out all the tears I’ve been holding back so when this year ends, I will have no regrets.” shaking the hearts of people who listened to him.

TVXQ Choikang Changmin who also guested along with him said, “I have never seen hyung crying out loud even once as well.” He then shared moments from his point of view as a dongsaeng who’s been staying with U-Know Yunho for a long time.

Yunho: Yes, it is a good song.
CM: It is embarrassing to say it yourself, but please hear the song many times in the future, too.

(Three questions from Tohoshinki to Yukie Nakama)

(Question 1)
CM: Your character is completely different from the previous characters which you have performed,
YH: It’s scary.
CM: Did you have any difficulties?

(Question 2)
YH: Everyone is wearing short sleeves. When did you film the drama?

(Question 3)
CM: Which type do you prefer?

Nakama: It is difficult to select….
MC: The questions, once more. What points were difficult when acting?
N: Yes, the feeling to the neighbor Eriko-san ….you had to be friendly with her, but you had to make lies, too… that part was difficult…I wanted the realistic scenes, so the balance was difficult.
MC: Were you filming the drama in summer?
N: Yes, summer, last summer. We started filming when it was very warm, it was hot.
MC: Yunho and Changmin, which is your type?
N: Oh, which should be my type…both are very handsome…but, should Changmin-san be the elder brother? Yes, he should be… So this time, I’ll select Changmin-san, because he seems to be his own man.

Rookie actor Park Yoo Hwan recently expressed his gratitude toward his older brother, JYJ’s Yoochun, for giving him a car as a present.

Park Yoo Hwan told Star News on February 15th, “I’ve always really liked cars and had a lot of interest in them. After passing my driver’s test recently, I found a car that I liked and pestered my brother about it; he really ended up buying it for me as a present.”

The car Yoochun bought his brother was a mid-sized sedan. Yoo Hwan explained, “I know that the prices of cars depend on the car options. It wasn’t over $80,000 USD.”

He continued, “I nagged him, saying that I’ll try my best if he buys it for me. It was Christmas at the time, and since it was around the time I was preparing for my debut, he bought it for me as a message of encouragement.”

“When I told him that I wanted to become an actor, hyung became worried and said, “It’s not an easy path to take”. I became worried as well, but in the end I made my decision. Hyung supported me and said that since I’ve already started, he told me to earn myself a good result.”

Yoo Hwan concluded, “I’m really thankful that I received such a big present. I want to work my best and give back to my hyung to avoid disappointing his expectations.”

Park Yoo Hwan is currently acting in the new MBC drama, “Shiny Shiny Shining.”

JYJ’s Foreign Fans Launch Petition in 10 Languages, “Protect JYJ’s Rights”

Foreign fans are mobilising for JYJ, who are in the midst of a lawsuit with SM Entertainment over their exclusive [contract].

As of the 14th, foreign fans of JYJ are continuing a petition that aims to protect and get recognised JYJ’s rights.

Foreign fans have opened and continue to monitor a page dedicated to the petition, which has been translated into 10 languages, including English, Chinese, Japanese, and French. Korean fans are not permitted to participate.

Since this petition directly addresses [JYJ’s] lawsuit on the validity of their contract, it will be submitted to the court. Fans have concluded that this lawsuit is causing JYJ’s inability to appear on music programmes as well as other constraints in their supposedly free entertainment activities.

Previously JYJ fans launched an ad campaign on January 27th with messages supporting JYJ. As a result, 120 buses in Seoul and other important cities (Gwangju, Daejeon, Daegu, Busan) are carrying the advertisement, “[JYJ] we cheer on your youth” for a month.
