@(fan) I fully understand what you want to say. But I am confident that those comments were not made by the 3 members themselves. Please understand why I cannot unveil the reason here.
Approx 22 hours ago

What I want to say is that please do not be swayed by the comments which we do not know whether the members really said or not. The most troubled with the current situation should be the 3 members’ Korean management company. If this company exists, it is impossible for the 5 members to resume their activities. Let’s stop the sterile discussions
Approx 24 hours ago

I am not trying to gain the fans’ favors. I am just twitting my feelings and the results of my researches. I do not need to gain favors in the first place. @(fan) please do not try to gain the fans’ favors. Do you hold any special feelings to Tohoshinki? RT @inouekozodesu ..

The Korean management company for the 3 members of Tohoshinki announced unbelievable comments. I believe they are even faking the members’ comments. They are just inflaming the Japanese fans. Please do not play around with the members anymore!

T/N: Inoue Kozo is a Japanese reporter who specializes in Japanese entertainment news.

“JJY halts activities..Tohoshinki cannot sing in Japan.” Tohoshinki, the group that, due to the management company SM Entertainment and exclusive contract issue, has halted all domestic and foreign activities. Members Junsu (Xiah), Jejung (Hero) and Yuchun (Micky), due to alleged relations with organized crime groups, were withdrawn from their Japanese management company Avex Entertainment. The local Sports Nippon news reported the incident with the above title on 17 September. JJY is derived from the initials of Junsu, Jejung and Yuchun. Sports Nippon said, “It will be impossible for the 3 to appear in the Year end Kouhaku Utagassen” although “Presently, Tohoshinki members’ songs are widely heard in Japan.” Also, “Avex had gone through Korea’s C-JeS to sign a contract with the 3. However, this company’s representative has a history with violent gangs, and using his father’s background, forced actor Kwong Sang Woo into an exclusive contract, was found guilty and got sent to prison. Avex, with their business ethics in mind, decided to cut the trio’s management off.“ they reported.

Also, “Their current decision will also help to improve their chances of reconciling with SM, who has had a poor relationship with them since the lawsuit began.” Without the support of Avex, the three’s chances of being isolated is very high” they analyzed. “Furthermore, if Tohoshinki restarts their activities, the three would definitely have to reconcile with SM. Avex revealed that “the 5-member Tohoshinki’s exclusive contract is unchanged. They will be working hard so that they can re-start their activities as 5,” but with the ruling of the lawsuit, which seems like it will happen this year, and if the three loses, a lengthy appeal period will be inevitable, and even with a ruling passed locally, an amicable end still seems difficult” Sports Nippon predicted.

On 17 September, Chunichi Sports News also reported with the headline “Tohoshinki Trio Halts Activities In Japan, Korean Management Company Representative Convicted.” saying “For 2 years starting May 2003, the C-JeS representative managed popular Korean actor Kwong Sang Woo, but in 2006, Kwong Sang Woo revealed that “I was forced to sign the exclusive contract,” giving them much negative press. The representative was found guilty of coercion, and he served time in August that year,” they pointed out. On the other hand, “Within a day, Avex has received over 200 enquiries about this news from Tohoshinki fans. It is also a fact that in July this year, Yuchun’s (Micky) manager was charged without detention for physical violence.” Also, “A decision on the lawsuit between the trio and SM, is expected to be revealed by this year. (With regards to the current matter), it is highly likely that important claims on the SM side will remain unchanged,” they predicted.

T/N: Please note that these are speculations from the Japanese press. Please read it with a pinch of salt.

There has been great concern in Korea after news went out that Dong Bang Shin Ki trio Micky YooChun, Hero JaeJoong and Xiah JunSu had left their Japanese agency.

The news came directly from the trio’s Japanese agency AVEX Trax on 16th September, announcing the temporal suspension of the trio’s Japanese activities. With that on 17th September, the trio’s representative responded on 17th September that the report is an one-sided report from AVEX Trax and have posed the trio with adverse conditions.

Even though this is for the trio’s Japanese activities, there has been great interests coming from Korea’s side as well. This is because currently, we are looking at the ‘new hallyu’ by singers who are promoting in Japanese currently like Big Bang, Supernova, KARA, So Nyeo Shi Dae etc.

In fact, the chance success to be achieved by the girlgroups in the Japanese music scene is said to be high. At the same time, many of these singers’ local agencies are contacting Japanese agencies to work together for these group’s Japanese promotions. And with this news, there have been many eyebrows raised from officials in the Korean music industry.

This comes as somewhat a cold air amidst the Kpop fever going on in the Japanese music scene. Dong Bang Shin Ki has been acknowledged as the representative Korean singer in the Japanese music scene. And many of the Japanese fans of KARA and So Nyeo Shi Dae are also fans of Dong Bang Shin Ki. This would have some impact on the Korean management companies to work with more caution with their groups promoting in Japan.

An official from the music scene commented, “Dong Bang Shin Ki is the pillar and the co-existence to Kpop in Japan. Even though they have not been very active since last year, we cannot underestimate the power that comes with the name in Japan. It is not exaggerating to say that the Kpop ‘new hallyu’ are made by Dong Bang Shin Ki. There are worries that with the 3 leaving the Japanese music scene, it will be like cold wind amidst the hot fever of Kpop in Japan.”

If we were such a bad company, then all the artists in avex would have said that they wanted to leave. All I can say is….we’re just a good company. A company that doesn’t talk well I guess. The matter this time too, honestly we were the ones who suffered the most damages.

Everything we could do, we did. But, I don’t know why they still chose that person. And this was the result! It probably couldn’t be helped. If Baek has anti-social powers, we can only do this. For us, even until the end, we were asking them to choose avex. But, I don’t even know why I was rejected, I still love these 3 people.

Like it spilled out from the inside, these are not lies…. The above.

Q: It seems as though the filming for your debut television drama has been completed, what did you find most difficult?

Since the production for the drama lasted all the way from January to June this year, I honestly felt like it took forever. In Korea, dramas are usually broadcasted as they are being filmed, but since mine is being produced before its broadcast, things are a little out of the ordinary. However, because I had to film practically every day, it was tough managing my physical condition. In contrast to life as a singer, it demanded a lot more self-control. Also, since this was my first time, I wasn't really able to get a good grasp on my own lifestyle. Even though the filming took place at Jeju Island, in the southern parts of Korea, I had to fly back and forth from Seoul to Jeju all the time, and sometimes even Japan. Having to travel around like that was actually quite exhausting.

Q: Is it true that Yunho came to show his support at your filming location?

Mmhm, he came twice. Once with some members of staff and once with some friends, they just came all of a sudden!! I was really scared. Yunho made me even more nervous than usual!! Because I wasn't used to the filming location, I was also worried that I'd cause trouble for the staff. Of course, I was glad that he came. It wasn't in Seoul or in Japan, he'd come all the way to Jeju Island just for me. But! I didn't really feel all that at the time (laughs), so after his visit, I said to Yunho 'Don't come to the filming location unless you've made yourself an appointment!!'

Q: Artist (singer), actor, model, how are they different from one another?

When you sing, you're conveying an entire story in the timespan of 3-4 minutes, whereas when you're acting, you've got 40 minutes to an entire hour to portray a whole variety of emotions, some more extreme, some more subtle. You can't really miss out any details, to me, it's a lot more difficult than singing. Modeling is also quite different from singing and acting. You can't straightforwardly express something. A lot of the time, when you're being photographed, it's more a matter of knowing how to work your expression to adequately match with the clothes you're wearing. These kind of shoots are really difficult. But no matter what type of job it is, their similarity is that they demand one to express one's feelings and emotions. I've been a shy person ever since I was young, so I'm really not good at communicating and interacting with other people. Recently, I've changed a lot. Becoming an actor during such difficult times has made me more conscious of my limits.

Q: What would be your ideal life?

I'm not like how I used to be, releasing singles and albums all the time, living a busy chaotic life. Up until now, I've always had packed schedules literally every day. This sudden decrease in work load… to be honest, I feel really lonely at times. For the past few years, my life has always been governed by my schedule, so I'm not really used to having so much time on my hands. At first I thought 'Oh well, no worries, it'll be okay.' But now that I'm starting to get used to it, I've learnt to enjoy life. There are things that I can do to help myself grow and mature, I've got a lot of learning to do. Amongst all those things, right now, I'm most passionate about boxing. I started doing it because people kept persuading me, but I've come to realize that on top of being good for stress relief, it's also an activity that brings you happiness. Whether it be my upper body or my lower body, rather than saying I've gotten more muscular, I think I just feel like my muscles have gotten harder. Besides that, I've learnt a lot with regards to acting, singing and dancing. Oh and I go to the boxing training centre all the time!! To me, a time like this is a time worth cherishing.

Q: What do you do when you're at home?

Listen to music and then sleep like I'm dead (laughs). I'm also really into reading. At the moment, I'm reading Haruki Murakami's new release 'IQ84".

Q: Where have you been going in your free time recently?

The basketball courts! I go around twice a week with Yunho and our manager. We play three against three. Even tough I'm not very good at it, I like sports that make me sweat. Since it's pretty much like a public part there, it's available 24 hours a day. We don't just play basketball, we've been going bowling more frequently than we used to. Our scores now are around 150 points at best, and the average is around 120-130. This was never the case before! Besides wondering why bowling balls are so heavy, we're really too interested in the rest (laughs).

Q: (We) really want to hear Changmin sing

I've been practicing. When I listen to artists that I like, I'll try and sing a long to their songs, imitating their enunciation and small habits. When I train myself like that, I'll think 'Oh, so this is where I'm lacking.' I've been really obsessed with bands lately, not only Korean bands, but also Japanese, European and American groups, I quite like them. Lately, the song that I think is the best is Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. Even though I can't really sing it too well, I really like the song. I listen to it all the time.

Q: How have you grown since debuting in your second year of high school?

I don't thing 'growing' is really the right way to put it. There have been some changes. Most people who start working whilst they're still in their childhood hold the same kind of attitude, they feel like everything revolves around work and they get to see or experience anything outside of it. I used to be like that too, I felt like I was always having cameras shoved in my face and being interviewed wherever I went. But because this is a job that I got from the hands of others, I also have slightly different values. I've developed my own perception of the world in ways that an ordinary student would never be able to comprehend. It's just that I'm in my 20s now and I'm more capable of devoting myself to friendships and romantic relationships. Things like that need to be cherished and I don't want to have to avoid them anymore. As time is lost, I've grown to really treasure these things. Recently, i've been thinking to myself that rather than those around me, I'm actually the one constantly confining and suppressing myself. I put a lot of pressure on myself and I've finally come to notice that. I'm not going to let myself do that.

Q: What do you want to be to your fans?

I want to be like a nutrient to other people. I hope that my presence will help raise people's spirits. I'm really grateful of all the support I've received from everybody, but I think it would be really terrible if that becomes all they ever do. I hope that those who support me will learn to cherish and enjoy the time that they have and will learn to support one another. I'll work hard to become that kind of person.

Q: What would you like to do the most this year?

If possible, I'd really like to go to the US. I was really passionate about learning english when I was young, so I can understand it pretty well, but speaking is a little more difficult. It's the same with Japanese, so I'm actually really interested in languages at the moment. I really really want to learn english again.

Q: What can we expect from Changmin in the days to come?

Even though I feel a little irresponsible saying this, I really am expecting a lot from myself, so I hope that my fans are anticipating my future endeavors just as I am myself. As an individual, I hope that I'll be able to remain the honest person I am without causing trouble for other people. That is the goal I will work towards.

Q: It's a shame that there aren't a lot of opportunities to meet with your fans. Please write a message to all of your Japanese supporters!

Hello everybody, I'm really doing very well! Since I've been modeling a lot more recently, I've been working very hard to maintain good physical condition so that I'll be able to look as good as possible in my photoshoots. As long as there's work for me in Japan, no matter when it is, I'll always look forward to coming. Please place your orders with the staff here! (laughs) I'll continue to try my hardest to bring happiness to those of you in Japan, so please look forward to it!

In an interview on the 17th, the trio's legal spokesman and lawyer Lim Sang Hyuk revealed that, "Avex requested changes in the contract that the members found difficult to agree to in clauses regarding topics such as income distribution."

Lawyer Lim Sang Hyuk also added, "At first, it was agreed that all activities performed by the three members would be scheduled and discussed by both sides, but Avex began asking for this to be changed so that Avex would have sole control of scheduling; Avex also requested additional changes that the trio felt were logically unacceptable"

Regarding Avex pinpointing the history of the head of C-JeS as the main reason for halting activities, Lawyer Lim explained that, "Mr. Baek, the head of C-JeS, willingly volunteered for his company to be excluded from the contract if his criminal record would become a problem, but Avex ignored such a notice," and "Later, they deemed that it would be difficult to progress normally with Mr. Baek's background."

The TVXQ trio's official statement said that, "Several months ago, Avex requested that C-JeS be excluded from the contract for such reasons, and the TVXQ trio agreed to such a request and actively participated in the discussions regarding the renewal of their contract with Avex in order to ensure that they would have smooth activities within Japan."

Lawyer Lim stated, "When viewing the chain of events, there were many situations that could only be seen as Avex insisting that things go their way and their way only. If the opposition decides to retaliate, we will release additional information from our side."

He also added that, "The essence of the current controversy is that an agency offered unfair conditions, contrary to what had been included in the previous contract, to their artistes. When these artistes refused to comply, the agency halted all activities, disregarding the members' wishes," and "It is disheartening to see that Avex is using the head of C-JeS, who is not affiliated with any gangs whatsoever, as a scapegoat to distract the media and public from the real problem."

Lawyer Lim criticized that, "It is immoral to back the TVXQ trio, some of Korea's most representative Hallyu stars, into a corner just because they cannot fulfill a company's greed," and strongly stressed that, "We will work hard to resolve this situation and allow the TVXQ trio to resume their activities in Japan."
